Life at the seams
To me, life is more interesting at the seams. Places where textures, colors, and tones meet. Where sky meets horizon, where change meets inertia. I love exploring frontiers where vastly different cultures meet. Those margins are vibrant and sometimes unpredictable. Sometimes they are messy and chaotic. They aren’t always pretty but you can find beauty in those seams. I have always loved photographing that region where ocean meets land. It is a dynamic zone where wave hits rock where the water can be gentle and orderly or rough and frenzied. When political, cultural and societal change is occurring, those seams show themselves. That is where I enjoy making images, messy beautiful, dramatic or subtle.
I have worked for over 30 years as an award winning photographer, editor and director of photography. My experiences have ranged from newspaper photography, editing and management, freelance photography and work for a U. S. Embassy. As a newspaper photographer I enjoyed all aspects of photography from food to sports and in- depth work. I was part of a leadership team who won awards for use of photography. As a freelancer I worked with businesses as they re-branded their presence on the Internet and worked with several kayaking and adventure magazines. I have been a judge for international, national and regional photo contests and have taught photojournalism. I recently worked for U.S. Embassy Havana and photographed an historic period when diplomatic relations began to thaw. During that time I photographed cabinet members, and celebrities visiting Cuba.
