I first became enamored with mosaic art after taking a workshop in Denver, and then honed my skills in Charlotte at Ciel Gallery, a gallery devoted to mosaic art. After a career in corporate human resources, creating mosaics was like coming home. I am once more free to explore and experiment with materials that intrigue me. Up-cycled and repurposed materials often appear in my work. I love the texture, patterns and contrasts that they provide. When an idea comes to me (typically at 3am!) the materials needed to manifest my vision start to appear everywhere I go…a plate of just the right shade of blue, vintage jewelry for a sculpture, or wire that can be twisted like vines. Each step of the process is a voyage, and I have learned to enjoy every step. Additionally, my love of mosaics is shared through teaching.
In addition to my creative interests, I am an arts advocate. As a teen ager, it was my art classes that kept me going to school when life delivered a blow to my family. My desire to contribute has led me to participate on board of directors for art focused organizations such as the North Fork Valley Creative Coalition, Colorado Mosaic Artists, and the Civic and Cultural Arts Center of Pineville, NC. Lending my business knowledge and skills wherever needed to build strong organizations is a passion of mine.
